Colors (a 1x1 pixel generator and asset server) -...
I find that, on occasion, I need 1px x 1px PNGs of varying colors. For example … when I don’t want to fool with the box model and how different browsers implement <div> widths, but I need a column border of a certain color. I also wanted to play around with the Ruby web framework Sinatra. Since this seemed like a really simple project, I gave it a shot. I ended up using a Ruby...

CSS Reset (from Eric Meyer), now as a TextMate...
Update: On 2011-01-03, I updated the code to include Eric Meyer’s 2011-01-03 refresh. If you downloaded this before, you’ll want to update your local copy by downloading the .zip file and then double-clicking on each .tmSnippet in the folder. People of Earth! Specifically, nerdy front-end developers who know about Eric Meyers’s CSS Reset! Even more specifically, those...

I think I just found my dream phone
It’s called the Motofone F3, and Motorola came out with it 4 years ago. It’s the simplest phone I can find. No photos. No texting (basically). No mobile web. No weirdo ringtones. Just calls, the date / time, and a contact list. That’s it. It’s perfect. Except … Unfortunately, I can’t find the F3c model (the version necessary for Verizon’s CDMA...

Clayton Christensen, in a speech given to Harvard’s 2010 graduating MBAs: Unconsciously, we often employ the marginal cost doctrine in our personal lives when we choose between right and wrong. A voice in our head says, “Look, I know that as a general rule, most people shouldn’t do this. But in this particular extenuating circumstance, just this once, it’s OK.” The marginal cost of doing...

"Negative Influence Metrics"
sirtobytobe: I like to group conversion funnels and cohort analysis into what I call “Positive Influence Metrics.”  This is when we look at the reports generated from the data we collect about users to determine the whether they are taking the desired action we want them to.  Hence we look for repeat positive signals showing users taking the actions we want them to.  These metrics and reports...
